Support for the broadband boom

Our expertise in the mobile communications sector gives us the capability to support the expansion of fibre-optic broadband networks across Europe. Our buildings are used to house the signal regeneration equipment that must be located every 50-80km along fibre optic circuits. They are also used for point of presence buildings, where the fibre backbone branches off to serve major population centres.

Portastor equipment housings were central to the development of several major broadband networks across Northern Europe. Now, with the expansion of broadband networks into the less populated areas of the UK using wireless technology, Portastor buildings are used to house essential wireless communications equipment in remote locations.

Secure buildings for sensitive systems

Security is essential for all broadband communication equipment buildings, since the data being transmitted is often highly sensitive. Maintaining the integrity of the network is paramount. Operators work to very stringent service level agreements, since any interruption to the flow of data could have major implications for global financial and other essential business systems. Portastor buildings for broadband applications are specified with additional security measures, as well as fire detection and suppression systems. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems can also be fitted to maintain an optimal operating temperature for the installed equipment.
